Economic Impact Payment (Stimulus) ( Recovery rebate) Bill --- H.R.748, The CARES Act

  • How much Economic Impact Payment (stimulus) will i receive?
    It depends on the filing status, your AGI amount, and the number of dependents you have
    Filing Status AGI Amount Economic Impact Payment
    Single $75,000 or less $1,200
    Married Filing Joint $150,000 or less $2,400
    Head of household $112,500 or less $1,200
    For each dependent under 17 it will be an additional $500.00

  • Who will receive the payment?
    To be eligible you must meet the following:
    1. Must have filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return or have a 2019 SSA-1099, or a Form RRB-2019 SS benefit statement
    2. Your AGI must be below $99,000 for single or $198,000.00 for Married filing joint or $136,500 for Head of household.
    3. You must be a resident alien
    4. You cannot be claimed as dependent on someone else return.
  • How will I get the payment?
    Your money will be deposited into your direct deposit account you used when you filed your 2019 tax return.
  • What if I did not file my 2019 tax return?
    Your money will be deposited into your direct deposit account you used when you filed your 2018 tax return.
  • What if I did not file my 2018 tax return?
    You need to file a 2019 tax return or 2018 tax return to get your Economic Impact Payment (stimulus). We are awaiting further instructions from Internal Revenue Service(IRS).
  • I am not typically required to file a tax return. Can I still receive my payment?
    Yes. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 to generate Economic Impact Payments to recipients of benefits reflected in the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 who are not required to file a tax return and did not file a return for 2019 or 2018. This includes senior citizens, Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return.
    Since the IRS would not have information regarding any dependents for these people, each person would receive $1,200 From IRS.GOV
  • Do I have to pay taxes on my Economic Impact Payment (stimulus)?
    No, the Economic Impact Payment (stimulus) is not taxable.
  • Is there any one who will not get a Economic Impact Payment (Stimulus) check or will get less than what they should receive?
    Yes. Only three groups of taxpayers.
    • Taxpayers with Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits (SSA-1099 or RRB-1099) and who have qualifying child dependent(s).
    • Taxpayers with Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits (SSA-1099 or RRB-1099) and whose spouse had no income and no SSA-1099 and no RRB-1099.
    • Taxpayers who do not need to file a tax return. (For example, who have income less than standard deduction and hence do not meet the filing requirement. For a more detailed regulation, please refer to Publication 501 )

Federal Tax Return Updates
  • The IRS has announced that the federal income tax filing due date is automatically extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020.
  • Taxpayers can also defer federal income tax payments due on April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020, without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. This deferment applies to all taxpayers, including individuals, trusts and estates, corporations and other non-corporate tax filers as well as those who pay self-employment tax.
  • Taxpayers do not need to file any additional forms or call the IRS to qualify for this automatic federal tax filing and payment relief.
  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
